Welcome
Welcome to Fairlands Middle School,
I am so excited to have begun my journey as the new headteacher here and I have been overwhelmed by the warm welcome I have had from the children and staff. It really is a wonderful Fairlands family to be part of. Of course our school is at the heart of the Wessex Learning Trust, an ever-growing group of schools with one aim, to improve the lives of children and young people.
Our mission is that all children can thrive in our care, and achieve the very best outcomes to set them on a journey to a successful future. We truly value the individual here, and whatever your child’s interests or talents, we are all working hard to achieve a wonderful broad and balanced experience that gives every child the skills, knowledge and experiences they need for living in modern Britain.
Fairlands is set in a stunning location, nestled in the Cheddar valley and we really do make the most of all our beautiful county has to offer. Our provision includes specialist teaching and spaces for science, technology and art, and we are lucky to have an expansive school field and sports offer.
I am supported by a skilled team of colleagues, many of whom have dedicated many years to the school, and some new appointments who bring wide-ranging experience to enrich our team.
We are proud to be THRIVE school, and we know that positive relationships are at the heart of a successful learning career. We are a truly inclusive school, and we work hard to meet the diverse needs of our pupils, regardless of their starting point.
This year we are delighted to be part of a project in partnership with Somerset County Council to enhance our provision for learners who need extra support. This has funded a specialist teacher of SEND, and a brand-new classroom, to ensure any pupils with additional needs make good progress. Any child who needs additional assessment or support, will have time in a small group with our specialist teacher to fill any gaps in their learning, and make a plan that helps them thrive.
In the words of Rita Pierson, I really do believe that
Every child deserves a champion – an adult who will never give up on them, who understands the power of connection, and insists that they become the best that they can possibly be.
It’s this that gets me up in the morning, and when a child achieves something and makes progress, that really is the best feeling in the world. What a joy it is to serve a team, a community and our children.
If you are considering which school to choose for your child, please do get in touch for a tour with our pupils and staff, to see us in action, or attend one of our open events coming soon.
With very best wishes
Rebecca Bennett – Headteacher
